AN ACCESSIBLE INTRODUCTION

What is an SDR?

A Software Defined Radio processes part of the received signal in software. A Web-SDR provides a control interface in the browser.

OpenWebRX and OpenWebRX+

OpenWebRX is a browser-based SDR interface. The frequencies and modes actually supported depend on receiver hardware and configuration.

KiwiSDR

KiwiSDR is a distinct SDR system with a web interface. Its hardware is separate from the software-platform field used for other devices. A Web-888 is not automatically a KiwiSDR.

Frequency, band and mode

Frequencies are stored internally in Hz. A band is a frequency range. AM, FM and SSB are different reception modes; available modes are documented for each device.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need radio hardware?

A suitable browser is enough for a publicly accessible Web-SDR. The operator decides access and any limits.

Why is the status shown as unknown?

Without an approved and sufficiently recent check, reachability cannot be stated reliably.

Where does audio start?

The portal does not start audio. “Listen now” opens the receiver’s original interface.

Why are map positions approximate?

Private locations are protected. An exact public position requires explicit approval.
